Arthur Prince Cup – Sunshine, Superb Scoring and New Partnerships
A fantastic day of sunshine greeted the field yesterday, and it clearly brought out the best in everyone competing for the Arthur Prince Cup. This event is always a little different — an American Greensomes with a draw for partners, giving members the chance to play with someone new and, more often than not, forge fresh friendships along the way.
This year was no exception. Nick Fox, who only joined Llanymynech in January, was partnered with Tom Hodgson, still a fledgling member himself. The pair dovetailed superbly, returning an excellent nett 62 to win by two strokes.
Chasing them were:
- Mike Ferguson & Tom Walsh – Nett 64
- Tim Thomas & Phil Davies – Nett 64
A brilliant effort from all involved and a great advert for the format.
A Busy Weekend Ahead
Next weekend promises to be a lively one, with three competitions taking place:
- The Twenty Cup – Saturday
- Monthly Medal – Saturday
- Inaugural Seniors Club Championship – Sunday
The Seniors Club Championship, played in memory of Mungo Munro, is set to be a special day. A reminder that you do not need to be a paid‑up member of the Seniors Section to enter — you simply need to be 55 or over on the day of the competition.
All rules and further details can be found on the Gents Competition Results Page.

County Representation – Anne & Denni Selected for Midlands North Qualifying
We are delighted to share some fantastic news from our Ladies Section. Anne Weetman and Denni Coleman have both been selected for the Shropshire County Ladies First Team, who will compete next week in the Midlands North Region Qualifying against Derbyshire, Staffordshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire & Rutland, and Lincolnshire.
The squad will travel to Shifnal Golf Club for a practice day on Sunday 31st, followed by two and a half days of competition. Each county match consists of three singles and two foursomes, with teams playing 36 holes on Monday and Tuesday, finishing on Wednesday morning.
Anne is a long‑standing and respected member of the county squad, only missing last year through injury. For Denni, this marks her first appearance at this level — a brilliant achievement and a proud moment for her and the club.
Team selection is made by the County Captain and the selection committee, and we are pleased to say that both Margaret Ratcliffe (Lady President) and Viv Davies (County Captain) will be with the team throughout the event.
The winners of the Midlands North Region will go on to represent the area at the National Finals at the end of July — so watch this space for updates.
Full event details can be found in the official brochure:

Best of luck to Anne and Denni — the whole club is behind you.
Seniors Update – Week 22 (26/05/2026)
A message from Seniors Captain, Charlie Jones
What a day for a competition — temperatures between 36 and 38 degrees, easily some of the hottest conditions many of us have ever played in. Despite the heat, there was some excellent golf on display.
This Week’s Results
- 1st – Andrew Hardy – Nett 68
- 2nd – Charles Armstrong – Nett 69
- 3rd – Alwyn Davies – Nett 70
Congratulations to all our prize winners, and well done to everyone who battled through such extreme conditions. Simply finishing your round was an achievement in itself.
Next Week
Next Tuesday’s competition is an Individual Stableford Swindle.
The Seniors team also have a busy schedule:
- Thursday – Away match vs Lilleshall
- Next Tuesday – Home match vs The Shropshire
Let’s hope the weather stays fine — and perhaps a little cooler.
Another Hole‑in‑One – This Time From Our Juniors!
Like London buses, you wait ages for one… and then two come along at once.
Hot on the heels of Garry Pugh’s ace, we now have another to celebrate — and this time it’s from our Junior Section. A massive congratulations to Finlay Dixon, who recorded a superb hole‑in‑one on the 9th at Bridgnorth today during the County Qualifying round for the Quad League.
A fantastic achievement on a testing hole and a brilliant moment for Finlay, and our juniors section.
Plenty more exciting junior golf still to come this season.
Another Hole‑in‑One on the Hill!
Congratulations to Garry Pugh, who has recorded a superb hole‑in‑one on the 10th — though the way it was discovered makes the story even better.
Garry hit a reasonable tee shot, just left of the yellow flag, with DC and Dave also hitting decent drives. When the three of them walked up to the 10th green, they could only see two balls. A search followed: behind the green, in the long stuff, around the bank — nothing. Only DC’s and Steve’s balls were on the putting surface.
With the three‑minute search window almost up, DC decided to check the hole “just in case”, fully expecting it to be a waste of time. Instead, he found Garry’s ball smiling back at him from the bottom of the cup.
At first Garry thought DC was winding him up, but sure enough, he had sunk it straight from the tee. A bottle was duly left behind the bar, as tradition demands.
Well played Garry — a fantastic ace and a great story to go with it.
SHUGC : Shropshire Star Team Championship Winners
Llanymynech Golf Club continues to go from strength to strength. Fresh off our memorable Hargrove victory, the club has added yet another major honour — winning the SHUGC Team Championships at Telford Golf Club on Wednesday.
Huge congratulations go to
Andrew Williams (Mr Captain), Martyn Smith (Mr Vice), Tom Walsh and Rob Williams,
who produced a fantastic team performance, finishing on an impressive 116 points and edging out Shifnal on countback to take the title.
A superb achievement, showcasing the depth of talent and team spirit within the club. Another trophy in the cabinet — and another proud moment for Llanymynech.
More success stories to come as the season rolls on.
Hole‑in‑One Alert – Darren Boyd Strikes on the 16th!
Some moments are worth the wait, and this week Darren Boyd finally enjoyed one of golf’s greatest — his first ever hole‑in‑one, and he did it on the 16th, one of the toughest par threes on the course.
It’s a brilliant achievement and a shot he’ll remember for a long time. The news only reached us recently, but as they say, all good things come to those who wait — and Darren has certainly waited patiently for this one.
He was also quietly delighted that the clubhouse was closed when he returned… meaning he avoided the traditional hefty bar bill. However, tradition still calls, and there’s always time for Darren to mark the occasion with a bottle.
A huge congratulations, Darren — a fantastic milestone on one of Llanymynech’s most demanding holes.
